New Resource: A Quick Guide for Higher Education Institutions
The Early On Center for Higher Education is pleased to share a new resource — A Quick Guide for Higher Education Institutions: Addressing Early Intervention Providers’ Preparedness for Working in the Field with Infants and Toddlers, Birth to Three, with Disabilities and Their Families.
Developed by Dr. Jessica Grimone-Hopkins, Dr. Christina Mirtes, and Dr. Audrey Farrugia from Eastern Michigan University, this guide draws from current research on early intervention providers’ self-efficacy and perceptions of preparedness. The findings highlight both strengths and opportunities for improvement within higher education programs preparing professionals to work with infants and toddlers with disabilities and their families.
The Quick Guide offers actionable recommendations and applied learning strategies across four key focus areas:
-
Course Development
-
Field Work Integration and Practical Experiences
-
Cross-Disciplinary Collaboration
-
Faculty Development
Designed for higher education faculty, program developers, and early intervention leaders, the guide provides research-informed tools and examples to help strengthen pre-service preparation and align coursework and experiences with real-world early intervention practice.
This project is supported by Part C of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) through funds awarded by the Michigan Department of Lifelong Education, Advancement, and Potential and Clinton County RESA Office of Innovative Projects / Early On Center for Higher Education.
