Hello Essential Prek Trainers!

During our recent Essentials 10 Refresher Training, Shanon Everett, Early Literacy and Family Engagement Consultant for the Michigan Department of Education (MDE) Office of Great Start, Early Childhood Development and Family Education, shared a series of handouts prepared by the Region 8 Comprehensive Center Network. These handouts provide tips and strategies for engaging families and providers in early literacy development.

To learn more about the efficacy and impact of these materials, MDE and Region 8 are hosting a focus group for Essentials Prek Trainers on February 5, 2021 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM. The goals of the focus group activity are to:

• Gather feedback on the content and presentation of the materials
• Learn how trainers have incorporated (or plan to incorporate) the materials into their Essentials Training or other professional development
• Hear more about additional materials or supports that would be useful for Prek audiences.

Materials provided for this free, virtual session will include handouts and a high-quality children’s book. Space is limited and registration will close when seats are filled.
