Let's Protect Initiative of Wayne County is offering an evidence-informed, adult-focused child abuse prevention program using the Darkness to Light Stewards of Children curriculum*, provided by Authorized Facilitators, Lacea Zavala, LMSW and Sabrina Oviatt, MA.  This effective, two and a half -hour course teaches adults simple actions that can have far-reaching, positive effects for children and is proven to increase knowledge and change behavior.

Course objectives include the following: 1. Learn the facts including what sexual abuse is, its prevalence, and how it occurs. 2. Minimize Opportunity.  More than 80% of sexual abuse cases occur in isolated, one-on-one situations.  Learn how to minimize the risk. 3. Talk About It.  Talking openly breaks down barriers and reduces stigma.  Learn how to have open conversations with children and each other about our bodies, sex, and boundaries. 4. Recognize the Signs.  Learn what to look for to protect children from further harm. 5. React Responsibly.  Learn the steps to take if you discover or suspect abuse.
