The Deveraux Early Childhood Assessment for Infants/Toddlers (DECA) was identified as a tool to assist service providers in implementing effective social emotional relationship-based supports for families. The DECA is a standardized, strength-based assessment of child protective factors including attachment, initiative, and self-regulation. It consists of a questionnaire completed by the family or caregiver. The assessment data is entered into the e-DECA system and if the child scores below his/her developmental age, strategies are generated for the family to implement to increase the child’s social emotional development.
