"I have less energy for this work.  I feel like I am running on empty."  Troubling words, but not uncommon for professionals in the field of early intervention and other helping fields. This interactive training will provide an overview of definition and costs of emotional labor and identify effective ways to manage the challenges of working in the field.  Practical self care strategies will be presented and practiced, including relaxing breathing and techniques and using the arts to acknowledge and work through grief and loss issues often encountered by providers in their work.

Learning Outcomes:

1.  Define emotional labor and its impact on working with families in challenging situations.

2.  Increase self awareness and acceptance of integrating self care into practice.

3.  Understand the impact of grief and loss in working in early intervention.

4.  Practice two self care strategies.

5.  Identify a self care plan to integrate into practice.
